Botanical Themed Vintage Fabric Junk Journal
My inspiration Often, I don’t have a specific idea in mind when I start a new junk journal. My inspiration comes from many sources. Whether it is Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube, I always know I will be inspired by all the beautiful images/post/tutorials out there. Although in this particular case, the idea came to me after I found a remnant of vintage fabric at a thrift store. I absolutely fell in love with the colors and images on this fabric! With my new inspiration found, my thoughts and vision for this journal were forming. I chose to stick to the pink and blue color scheme along with green and…
Paper and Lace Dress on Mixed Media Canvas
Today I wanted to create something a little different. Paper dolls were always a favorite for me as a little girl. After seeing all the paper craft posts on Pinterest, specifically the images by Brenda Henning, I decided to give it a shot. The bottom half of the dress was created by folding craft papers accordion style like a fan. Some of the pages had frayed edges, some scalloped, some torn, some distressed. I kept gathering and clipping together the folded pages at the top to create the small “waist” of my dress, fanning out the edges to create the dress shape. Once satisfied with the shape, I stapled the…
Vintage 1940’s evening dress – re purposed
I have to admit, I have a hard time passing up a Goodwill sale. In my area, they happen every other Saturday. It seems that every time I make it to one of these sales, I find something (or a lot of somethings) to be thrilled about. I did have a focus for this goodwill excursion: to find laces and trim for a journal I am making. You really can get a lot for the money looking at clothing to use in your projects rather than going to the craft store. Agreeably, it may be difficult if you are looking for something specific I agree, that is why I will…
Embellished Vintage File Folder Junk Journal
This embellished vintage file folder junk journal was inspired by the beautiful woman I cut out of a magazine. At the time I didn’t know what I was going to make with her, but I knew the idea would come to me sooner or later. One day I decided to use up a bunch of manila file folders I had lying around. There were a total of 8 regular size folders which I cut in half lengthwise. Make any width and length you want your journal to be. Once my pieces were folded in half, they measured approximately 4 1/2 x 4 1/2″. The construction of this journal was relatively…
Gorgeous Vintage Lace Junk Journal Grocery Bag
I constructed the cover by taking a large white paper bag and cutting it down to 10 inches wide (this includes two 4 inch covers and a 2 inch spine) and 8 inches high. I watched lots of you tube tutorials and adapted them to end up with this result. Next, I put together my signatures by picking out papers with a neutral color scheme (this was difficult for me as I LOVE COLOR). Each paper measured approximately 8 x 10″. I folded each in half to compose the signatures. I varied the placement, size and texture of each page for interest. I threw in various doilies, a file folder,…
