Paper and Lace Dress on Mixed Media Canvas
Today I wanted to create something a little different. Paper dolls were always a favorite for me as a little girl. After seeing all the paper craft posts on Pinterest, specifically the images by Brenda Henning, I decided to give it a shot. The bottom half of the dress was created by folding craft papers accordion style like a fan. Some of the pages had frayed edges, some scalloped, some torn, some distressed. I kept gathering and clipping together the folded pages at the top to create the small “waist” of my dress, fanning out the edges to create the dress shape. Vintage Shabby Chic Mixed Media Canvas Collage
I had a blank 8×10″ canvas lying around….. what to do with it? Start a mixed media collage of course! I didn’t have any specific idea in mind, so I looked around a my scrap papers and pulled some out. The color scheme just seemed to come together. Orange and Green. Maybe it was because it was springtime. I have learned through trial and error, to start the BOTTOM layer first. In previous collages, I had attached the 3 dimensional pieces first and then tried to finish the background by painting around them. Lets just say that didn’t work for me.
