Lovely Ladies Vintage Junk Journal

My inspiration

My vast collection of vintage images cut from magazines, old photographs, and calendar pictures all inspired me to make a junk journal featuring the lovely ladies from the past. I decided on a red/white/black theme with a few animal prints because to me, this combination is both glamorous and timeless. Below are some images that I included in this junk journal.

The cover

This journal started out from a vintage book. I removed the spine and all the interior pages. The front and back cover were perfect for this journal. I mod podged vintage style scrapbook paper to both sides of each of the book covers. I decided on using ring binders for this journal as the spine was so deteriorated.

From there, I attached a collaged tag to the cover featuring vintage ladies at the beach. The tag is decorated with lace, doilies, washi tape and ribbon. In addition, two separate snippet clusters were added to the cover using burlap, corrugated cardboard, vintage music, eyelash trim, rhinestones and fabric.

Page construction

The book cover measured 5″ x 9″, which dictated the size of my pages. I gathered an eclectic mix of scrapbook paper, graph paper, a vintage calendar page, envelopes, paper bags, greeting cards, corrugated cardboard and book pages. This collection of papers were all cut to fit these dimensions.

After punching two holes in each page for the ring binders, for added durability, I added hole reinforcements or eyelets.

Embellishments

Since each page was separate, it was easy to add embellishments to them. I sewed on images, created pockets, added lace and fabric trim, glued on rhinestones and added tags. Here are some additional images of the interior pages.

There are many pockets made from paper bags and envelopes as you can see below. Additional writing booklets and tags have been inserted into these hidden spots.

Final touches

Since the cover was highly embellished, I decided on a removable ribbon closure that was black with white sequins.

I hope this inspires you to look through old magazines and photographs and create your own Lovely Ladies Junk Journal.

Glitter on friends,

I am a self proclaimed junk journal fanatic and creative crafter. If it is vintage, I am in! I recently retired from the corporate world and now have more time to devote to my love of creating one of a kind treasures. Besides junk journals my hobbies include thrifting, flea market outings, fashion, cooking, hanging with my girlfriends and daughter and golf with my husband. I currently live in the mountains of beautiful Colorado.
