The Workbasket-Shabby Chic Fashion Ladies Junk Journal

The Workbasket– what is that? A homemaker arts magazine from the 1960’s. This shabby chic fabric and paper journal was inspired by a copy I picked up at a thrift store. The image of the beautiful lady on the front cover was from one of the pages inside. I love to look at these magazines and see how times have changed!

The cover was put together using a method entitled “fabric paper or paper fabric”. The YouTube I watched was by Ronda Winstead. Definitely check it out. The process is fun and easy!

I can’t resist vintage sewing patterns…these two pages are collaged to the hilt with music, pages from The Workbasket, fabric, lace bead and button adornment.

See why I couldn’t get enough of *The workbasket* images? They are fantastic! I simply added my signature decoration and bling to the collage pages.

All pages were constructed before attaching them to the spine. I started with a piece of neutral colored heavy card stock which was folded in half. These created the base for my pages. I used a combination of decoupage, sewing and gluing to create my collages.

Once I was satisfied with all my embellishing ( I admit sometimes it is hard to know when to stop) and put in the order I wanted, I attached each of the 5 signatures to the spine. I decided on a three hole pamphlet stitch.

Fabric snippets, ribbon and vintage jewelry were glued to the front for added interest. A lace tie closure with additional strips of ribbon secured together adds the final touch to this beauty.
