Paper and Lace Dress on Mixed Media Canvas
Today I wanted to create something a little different. Paper dolls were always a favorite for me as a little girl. After seeing all the paper craft posts on Pinterest, specifically the images by Brenda Henning, I decided to give it a shot. The bottom half of the dress was created by folding craft papers accordion style like a fan. Some of the pages had frayed edges, some scalloped, some torn, some distressed. I kept gathering and clipping together the folded pages at the top to create the small “waist” of my dress, fanning out the edges to create the dress shape. Once satisfied with the shape, I stapled the…
Shabby Chic Mini File Folder Junk Journals
Three shabby chic vintage file folders created in an afternoon! What a great time I had putting these little cuties together! It all came together when I had a few hours open, but didn’t want to embark on a large project. I wanted something that was easy and would use up some of my paper scraps. Since the mini 5×7″ file folders were a neutral creme and black color, I decided to continue with those colors. All of my papers were laid out and cut to relatively the same size when folded in half. Here are pictures of the three finished journals. The interiors of each journal are very similar…
The Workbasket-Shabby Chic Fashion Ladies Junk Journal
The Workbasket– what is that? A homemaker arts magazine from the 1960’s. This shabby chic fabric and paper journal was inspired by a copy I picked up at a thrift store. The image of the beautiful lady on the front cover was from one of the pages inside. I love to look at these magazines and see how times have changed! The cover was put together using a method entitled “fabric paper or paper fabric”. The YouTube I watched was by Ronda Winstead. Definitely check it out. The process is fun and easy! All pages were constructed before attaching them to the spine. I started with a piece of neutral…
Vintage 1940’s evening dress – re purposed
I have to admit, I have a hard time passing up a Goodwill sale. In my area, they happen every other Saturday. It seems that every time I make it to one of these sales, I find something (or a lot of somethings) to be thrilled about. I did have a focus for this goodwill excursion: to find laces and trim for a journal I am making. You really can get a lot for the money looking at clothing to use in your projects rather than going to the craft store. Agreeably, it may be difficult if you are looking for something specific I agree, that is why I will…
Embellished Vintage File Folder Junk Journal
This embellished vintage file folder junk journal was inspired by the beautiful woman I cut out of a magazine. At the time I didn’t know what I was going to make with her, but I knew the idea would come to me sooner or later. One day I decided to use up a bunch of manila file folders I had lying around. There were a total of 8 regular size folders which I cut in half lengthwise. Make any width and length you want your journal to be. Once my pieces were folded in half, they measured approximately 4 1/2 x 4 1/2″. The construction of this journal was relatively…
